The authorities apprehended four individuals on Thursday after seizing 61.5 grams of mephedrone, according to officials. Further questioning of the suspects led to the identification and arrest of Aakarshan Srisrimal, who is believed to be the supplier of the drugs. The four accused individuals have been charged under the Narcotic Drugs and Psychotropic Substances (NDPS) Act, with an FIR filed by the Indiranagar police station.
In a separate incident earlier this week, the Directorate of Revenue Intelligence (DRI) made a significant drug seizure in Mumbai. The agency intercepted a bus carrying 16 kg of mephedrone, which was being smuggled from Hyderabad. The drugs, valued at more than Rs 24 crore, were discovered after a surveillance operation based on intelligence inputs. Five people were arrested in connection with the seizure, and Rs 1.9 crore in cash was also recovered from three of the suspects.
The DRI’s Mumbai zonal team, acting on a tip-off, stopped two individuals traveling in a bus in the early hours of Tuesday. Upon searching their luggage, the officers confirmed that the powdered substance was mephedrone. Further interrogation led to the arrest of three more individuals, including a middleman and a receiver, who were also connected to the smuggling operation. All five individuals have been arrested under the provisions of the NDPS Act.
