by Ananya Mehta

The Elephant Gate police arrested Ranjit Kumar, the manager of a parcel company, in connection with the theft of gold and silver jewellery worth nearly Rs90 lakh in Sowcarpet on Saturday.

According to police, Parveen Kumar Saini, a resident of Sowcarpet and operator of a logistics company, had collected gold and silver jewellery from five jewellery shops. These items were to be sent in sealed parcels to two gold showrooms in Bengaluru on December 25.

Saini booked the parcels through a courier service located on Kandappan Street in Sowcarpet. However, the jewellery never reached the intended showrooms. When Saini contacted Ranjit Kumar, the manager of the courier company, he allegedly tried to evade the issue, claiming the parcels were delayed.

Police have arrested Ranjit Kumar for further investigation, and authorities are tracing the missing parcels to recover the stolen jewellery.
