Rajkot Police have arrested Vijay Nagani (28) for allegedly stealing silver worth Rs 17.6 lakh from the residence of his employer near Satellite Chowk on Morbi Road. The crime was reported on December 17, and Nagani was apprehended by the Zone 1 crime branch team.
The complainant, Rahul Sawant (32), a silver jewellery businessman, stated that Nagani had been employed with him for about 1.5 months. Sawant said he procured silver from various firms and manufactured ornaments at his home. On December 17, Nagani allegedly decamped with 16,107 grams of silver.
Following the complaint, the police launched a search operation. According to Deputy Commissioner of Police Hetal Patel, tips indicated that Nagani was frequently seen in the Bhagwati Para area. Acting on this information, the crime branch traced him near the Aji River and took him into custody.
During interrogation, Nagani confessed to the theft, and police recovered 15,019 grams of silver, valued at approximately Rs 15.47 lakh, from his possession.
Preliminary investigations revealed that Nagani had a criminal history, with prior theft cases registered at Malaviya Nagar Police Station and B Division Police Station. Officials noted that he would often gain employment to gain the trust of employers before committing thefts. Further investigations are ongoing.
