Delhi Police have arrested three individuals, including a woman, in connection with a burglary at a senior citizen’s home in Saket, South Delhi, recovering gold and diamond jewellery worth approximately Rs 21 lakh.
The accused have been identified as Shivam Sonkar alias Sibu (25) and Akash Sharma (32), both from Jahangirpuri, and a 28-year-old woman from Amritsar, Punjab.
The burglary occurred on October 31 when the victim was away from home. The perpetrators allegedly broke open a window, entered the flat, and stole gold and diamond jewellery, wristwatches, perfumes, and other valuables.
Police registered a case under relevant provisions of the Bharatiya Nyaya Sanhita, analyzing CCTV footage, technical data, and local intelligence. Surveillance revealed Shivam Sonkar near the complainant’s house, leading to his arrest on December 16. Interrogation revealed the involvement of Akash Sharma, who was subsequently apprehended.
Further investigation traced the stolen jewellery to a rented premises in Amritsar, where police recovered the gold, a wristwatch, and a perfume bottle. A gold chain mortgaged at a finance company in Amritsar was also retrieved. The woman, suspected to be a receiver of the stolen property and relative of the accused, was arrested during the raids.
Recovered items include 131.41 grams of gold jewellery, such as bangles, chains, a mangalsutra, a pendant, and a pair of diamond-studded earrings.
