Soro Police Arrest Five in Civil Court Burglary Case

Gold, silver, cash, and firearm recovered from accused

Soro Police have arrested five persons in connection with a burglary at the Soro Civil Court Complex, recovering valuables including gold and silver ornaments, cash, and a firearm, officials said on Wednesday.

The arrested accused are:

Bhabani Shankar Mahal (alias Kathi, 28)

Harapriya Mahal (29)

Kamalakanta Rana (alias Kamala, 57)

Niranjan Rana (57)

Damodar Bej (59)

All five are residents of Balasore, police added.

The burglary occurred during the night of November 2–3, 2025. Around 1 am on November 3, Manas Ranjan Behera, Deputy Administrator-cum-Clerk in Charge of the Store Room at Soro Civil Complex, filed a written complaint. Following this, Soro PS Case No. 901 dated 03.11.2025 under relevant sections of the BNS was registered.

During investigations, police recovered most of the stolen items, including:

Gold ornaments

Silver ornaments

A pistol with 25 rounds of live ammunition

Rs 18,000 in cash

A motorcycle

Balasore Sadar SDPO Subhransu Sekhar Nayak stated, “A burglary took place at the Soro Civil Court Complex. Most of the stolen property—including gold, silver, cash, and a firearm—has been recovered. Some items that had already been sold were traced and recovered as well. Efforts are underway to arrest others involved in the crime.”

Further investigations are ongoing to identify and apprehend additional suspects linked to the burglary.
