ST. ALBANS, Maine — Two St. Albans residents remain behind bars following their arrests in connection with an ongoing investigation into multiple vehicle thefts, according to the Somerset County Sheriff’s Office.

Steven Dumont, 44, and Cheyenne Tripp, 28, were taken into custody Friday after deputies responded to a report of a stolen vehicle at a St. Albans residence, Chief Deputy Mike Mitchell said. Investigators believe the case involves coordinated activity related to at least two stolen vehicles.

Deputies located one suspected stolen vehicle at the residence, where Dumont was arrested. Authorities have not disclosed where that vehicle was originally taken from.

Later the same day, a second vehicle believed to have been stolen from the St. Albans home was found abandoned in Cambridge. Investigators allege Tripp was responsible for taking that vehicle. She was arrested later in Hartland.

Dumont faces charges of theft by receiving stolen property and unlawful possession of scheduled drugs. He was also arrested on outstanding warrants for theft by receiving stolen property and a probation revocation tied to a previous theft case. Jail records show Dumont is being held without bail due to the probation revocation, with additional bail set at $1,500 for the new charges. His next court appearance is scheduled for May 20.

Tripp was charged with theft by unauthorized taking or transfer and also arrested on a warrant for failure to appear in court related to prior drug charges, including unlawful furnishing and possession of scheduled drugs. Bail for the theft charge was set at $500, and she is also due in court on May 20.

The Somerset County Sheriff’s Office says the investigation remains active and that additional charges or arrests are possible as authorities continue examining the suspected conspiracy. The Maine State Police and Maine Warden Service assisted in the investigation.
