LONDON, UK — A casino employee who believed she was not being watched has been arrested after CCTV captured her stealing £10,000 from her workplace at Westfield Stratford City.

Juliana Quintero Velasco, 24, was caught on surveillance cameras removing bank notes from a register drawer inside Genting Casino Stratford. Footage shows her checking whether colleagues were nearby before using paperwork to conceal the cash and leaving the office early.

Velasco was seen tapping her staff pass to exit through a secure door and later leaving the building with a black jacket draped over her arm, unaware that her actions were being recorded.

The Metropolitan Police were alerted to the theft and received intelligence suggesting Velasco planned to leave the country. Officers moved quickly and arrested her less than 24 hours later.

In a post on Facebook, the Met said:

“She thought the cameras weren’t watching, but justice had other plans. Officers acted swiftly and arrested a casino employee caught on CCTV stealing £10,000.”

Velasco appeared at Thames Magistrates’ Court on 30 June, where she pleaded guilty to theft by employee. She was sentenced to 120 hours of unpaid work and ordered to pay £1,200 in compensation.

A spokesperson for Genting Casinos said the company treats employee matters seriously and cooperates fully with police investigations, while praising its national surveillance team for helping keep staff and customers safe.
