SWEETWATER, Fla. — An Amazon delivery driver has been arrested by Sweetwater police for allegedly stealing multiple packages during the holiday season.
Diego Alejandro Santana-Caner, 25, of Miami, was taken into custody Monday afternoon at the Amazon delivery station on NW 14th Street. Police met with a manager who reported about 20 missing packages, which Santana-Caner admitted to discarding or selling. Some of the packages reportedly contained eight AirPods.
Authorities said surveillance footage also captured Santana-Caner taking several food items from Amazon’s lunchroom without paying. He later submitted a written statement to Amazon and signed a restitution form for the stolen items, totaling $2,239.72. The thefts reportedly occurred between November 23 and December 11.
Santana-Caner faces charges of third-degree grand theft and dealing in stolen property. He is currently held at Turner Guilford Knight Correctional Center on a $10,000 bond. He is not expected to post bond immediately due to an unrelated felony probation violation involving a staged accident and false police report.
Amazon has been contacted for comment on the incident.
