A Cambridge drug dealer who claimed the Class A drugs he carried were a “birthday gift” to himself has been sentenced to prison. Road Policing officers spotted 24-year-old Miklivan Benga driving a grey Mercedes on August 22 and recognised him as a man wanted for failing to appear in court. He was arrested while stopped at a red light.
A search of his vehicle uncovered cocaine valued at up to £1,200 as well as cannabis. Benga reportedly told officers he bought the cocaine in bulk ahead of his upcoming birthday.
On Monday, November 28, at Cambridge Crown Court, Benga — who has no fixed address — was sentenced to two years and eight months in prison after pleading guilty to possession with intent to supply crack cocaine, possession of cannabis, and driving without a licence or insurance. He was also banned from driving for 22 months.
Detective Constable Hubbard stated: “Benga thought he could avoid detection, but this case shows that while we can’t be everywhere, we could be anywhere. We will track down those who deal drugs and drive illegally. Unfortunately for Benga, that happened on his birthday.”
