A Roseville woman is behind bars after police say she stole nearly $23,000 worth of merchandise from two stores in a local shopping plaza.

The Roseville Police Department said Friday that Christina Bemis was arrested and booked into the South Placer County Main Jail on multiple charges, including two counts of burglary, two counts of felony vandalism, grand theft, possession of stolen property, and resisting or obstructing a peace officer.

Officers responded around 10 p.m. Thursday to a shopping center along Douglas Boulevard, east of Interstate 80, after an alarm at Famous Footwear went off. When they arrived, they found Bemis standing near a broken window outside the nearby T.J. Maxx.

Police took her into custody and soon learned she had allegedly stolen $22,814.55 worth of merchandise—mostly clothing and jewelry—from T.J. Maxx. Investigators say she also broke into Famous Footwear and stole a pair of shoes valued at $90.

Bemis remains in custody as the investigation continues.
