Joplin Man Caught Twice Stealing Telecom Cables

by Sophia Bennett

JOPLIN, Mo. — Jordan Romero, 36, has been sentenced to nine years in prison after pleading guilty to stealing and receiving stolen property, authorities said Monday.

Romero, arrested twice in one year for wire theft, was first taken into custody in March 2024 after deputies discovered more than 400 feet of cables cut from telephone poles in the Sarcoxie area.

In July 2024, Romero was arrested again for stealing 1,000 feet of telecommunications wire from AT&T. A second man, Mark Cravener, 51, was also arrested in the July case and is scheduled to appear in court in December.

Following Romero’s guilty plea, Jasper County Judge David Mouton handed down the nine-year sentence, reflecting the seriousness of the repeated crimes.
