A 26-year-old man, T Gunasekaran from Urudaiyapatti village, Thathangayarpettai, was murdered late Monday night following a dispute with two brothers in a village near Musiri, Trichy district. Gunasekaran, who worked as a driver and ran a small mutton stall, became involved in a financial disagreement with the accused.
The suspects, B Harish (27) and B Mathivanan (25) from Karukudi village, allegedly had an ongoing feud with Gunasekaran. According to police reports, the tension escalated when Gunasekaran and Harish had a public argument while Gunasekaran was dining. Later that night, Harish reportedly planned to set fire to Gunasekaran’s mutton shop.
Learning about the plan, Gunasekaran, accompanied by friends, went to the brothers’ house to confront them. During the confrontation, a violent altercation broke out, and Harish allegedly struck Gunasekaran on the head with a coconut scraper, causing his instant death.
Musiri DSP Y Sureshkumar and Thathaiyangarpettai police reached the scene promptly. The body was sent to Thuraiyur Government Hospital for autopsy, and both accused brothers were arrested within hours.
Following the killing, Gunasekaran’s relatives and villagers blocked the Thathaiyangarpettai-Mettupalayam road, demanding justice and government compensation. The protest ended after police assurances, and normal traffic resumed.
Authorities continue to investigate the case to determine the full scope of the financial dispute and any additional accomplices.
