A 40-year-old man was brutally killed by relatives over a long-standing family feud while attending his mother’s funeral in Baghpat, police said on Thursday.
The incident occurred on Wednesday at Jhankar Gali in the Eidgah area. The deceased, identified as Nafees, had reportedly eloped with his cousin’s wife six years ago. The couple later married and settled in Saharanpur.
On Wednesday, upon learning of his mother Maksudi’s death, Nafees traveled from Saharanpur to attend her funeral. After the funeral prayers, when he reached the graveyard, his cousins, along with their sons and son-in-law, allegedly attacked him. They dragged him out of the graveyard, threw him on the road, and struck his head with bricks, killing him instantly.
Police rushed Nafees to a hospital, where doctors declared him dead. Kotwali police station SHO D K Tyagi confirmed that an FIR has been lodged against six people, including the main accused, Mohsin, who has been arrested. Efforts are ongoing to apprehend the remaining suspects.
