FARGO, N.D. (Valley News Live) — A homeless man was arrested for attempted felony theft after a disturbance at the Main Avenue Wells Fargo on Monday afternoon.

Fargo Police Department officers responded around 2:27 p.m. to the 400 block of Main Avenue after the suspect entered the bank and told an employee he was robbing the bank and demanded $50,000.

Officers quickly detained 36-year-old Kashif Grant without incident. According to the initial investigation, Grant was unarmed, displayed no weapons, and made no threats to bank staff or customers.

Police confirmed that while they initially responded as if a robbery was in progress, there was no threat to the public or employees. There is no evidence suggesting any attempt to inflict bodily harm, so robbery charges do not apply.

Grant was booked for attempted felony theft. A report has been forwarded to the Cass County State’s Attorney’s Office to determine appropriate charges.
