DANVILLE, Ill. (WICS) — Kaydo Moreman, 28, formerly of Danville, Illinois, has been sentenced to seven years in the Illinois Department of Corrections after pleading guilty to unlawful possession of a weapon by a felon, a Class 2 felony.

The plea and sentencing occurred on October 31 before Judge Karen Wall. Following his prison term, Moreman will also serve a one-year mandatory supervised release.

The case originates from a November 15, 2023, incident when Danville police responded to gunshots near Main and South Streets. Officers found a victim with a gunshot wound to the left thigh. Surveillance footage captured Moreman outside a nearby business holding a .40 caliber handgun.

Subsequent police investigation led to search warrants at two residences Moreman had visited, where the firearm was recovered. DNA testing by the Illinois State Police Crime Lab confirmed Moreman’s DNA on the weapon. Moreman also has a prior felony conviction for unlawful possession of a firearm.

State’s Attorney Jacqueline Lacy thanked the witnesses and Danville Police Department for their efforts. “Every time law enforcement takes a gun out of the hands of a repeat offender, it helps to make our neighborhoods safer,” Lacy said. “We will continue to work with police to protect our community.”
