A 38-year-old man, identified as K. Anuparthiban of Kollampalayam, was arrested on Wednesday for allegedly snatching six-and-a-half sovereigns of gold jewellery from a woman near Erode Railway Junction.

According to police, the incident occurred on Tuesday, when Saraswathi (65), a resident of Thamaraipalayam in Kodumudi, was on her way to board a train to Hosur. On her way, an unidentified man approached her, claiming to know a shortcut to the railway station.

Trusting him, Saraswathi followed the man, who then allegedly snatched her gold jewellery and fled the scene. The woman immediately raised an alarm, and a police complaint was lodged.

After reviewing CCTV footage and conducting an investigation, police identified the suspect as Anuparthiban. He was arrested on August 6, 2025, and the stolen gold was recovered from his possession.

He was later produced before a magistrate and remanded to judicial custody.
