LAREDO, Texas (KGNS) – A 22-year-old Laredo man, identified as Raul Esqueda, has been arrested on theft charges after allegedly scamming a former acquaintance out of several hundred dollars, according to police reports.

Authorities say Esqueda was served with an arrest warrant on October 22, charging him with theft of property, a Class B misdemeanor.

The incident traces back to March 23, when a Laredo Police officer responded to a possible scam report in the 1500 block of Salinas Avenue. The victim told police he had previously helped Esqueda by letting him stay at his home but later lost contact with him.

Investigators discovered that the complainant had first given Esqueda $110 and, on another occasion, was persuaded to send $200 to another person at Esqueda’s request.

According to the police report, the victim expressed concern for Esqueda’s safety, fearing he might have ties to a criminal group.
