The Thillai Nagar Police in Trichy have arrested two youths, including a 17-year-old boy, for allegedly breaking into a house and stealing silver idols and other valuables. The burglary took place while the homeowner and caretaker were away.

According to police, the homeowner currently lives abroad, and her son-in-law, S. Sudharsan (51) from Thiruverumbur, manages the property. On October 9, Sudharsan locked the house before leaving, only to discover the theft when he returned on Saturday evening.

The stolen items included two silver idols, six silver coins, and one silver dollar.

Following the complaint, the Thillai Nagar Police registered a case under Sections 331(4) (trespass) and 305(a) (theft) of the Bharatiya Nyaya Sanhita (BNS).

Upon reviewing CCTV footage, police identified the suspects as K. Vijayaraj (19) and a 17-year-old minor, both residents of Cauvery Nagar near Mutharasanalur.

The investigation team swiftly tracked down the duo and recovered all stolen silver items, which were later returned to the caretaker.

Police said Vijayaraj has been remanded to judicial custody, while the juvenile offender was sent to an observation home under the supervision of the Juvenile Justice Board.

Authorities commended the prompt response and urged residents to install surveillance systems to help prevent similar incidents.
