CRAVEN COUNTY, N.C. — Deputies have arrested a man accused of stealing metal and equipment in two separate thefts across Craven County.
According to the Craven County Sheriff’s Office, on October 9 deputies responded to a theft report along Highway 17 in Vanceboro. Their investigation led them to 37-year-old Phillip Shearin, who was also linked to another theft that occurred on September 29 on Mile Road near Vanceboro.
Authorities say Shearin used a 2012 black Nissan Altima to commit the crimes and later sold the stolen property — including various metals, 50 mower blades, a mini refrigerator, and a generator — to metal recycling facilities.
Deputies located and arrested Shearin on Monday. He has been charged with two counts of larceny and felony obtaining property by false pretense.
Shearin is currently being held at the Craven County Detention Center, with his bond to be set later today.
