MCDOWELL COUNTY, N.C. — Two people have been charged in connection with the theft of property belonging to the North Carolina Department of Transportation (NCDOT), according to the McDowell County Sheriff’s Office.

Between Sept. 22 and Sept. 24, NCDOT workers reported that several items were stolen from a DOT facility, including chainsaws, leaf blowers, and a Makita hammer drill.

During the investigation, deputies identified Bynum Lee Little Jr., of Nebo, as a suspect. Surveillance video from the property reportedly helped confirm his identity.

Little faces multiple felony charges, including:

2 counts of felony breaking and/or entering a motor vehicle

3 counts of felony larceny

He was booked into custody and given a $50,000 secured bond.

Authorities also charged Brittany Dawn Owensby, 41, of Marion, with felony accessory after the fact.
She was denied bond because she was already out on pretrial release for a separate case.

The McDowell County Sheriff’s Office continues to investigate the thefts, which resulted in the loss of valuable state-owned equipment.
