ADENTA, GHANA — Two construction workers have been sentenced to three years imprisonment each for stealing 15 boxes of floor tiles valued at GH¢4,000.

The Adenta Circuit Court, presided over by Mrs. Sarah Nyakoa Nkansa, found Abdul Ganuie, 28, a mason, and Godwin Akpai, 31, a carpenter, guilty after a full trial that began in March 2025. Both were convicted of conspiracy to commit a crime and stealing.

According to the prosecution, led by Chief Inspector Maxwell Lanyo, the complainant, Frank Hadzi, a foreman at a construction firm in Accra, reported the theft after the men were seen removing boxes of tiles from a warehouse at Adenta Aviation.

On March 12, 2025, at around 3:00 p.m., the convicts used a Hyundai Getz (registration GW-6880-22) to transport the stolen tiles. A worker at the site noticed the activity and raised an alarm. When confronted, Ganuie and Akpai admitted they were taking the tiles to Abossey Okai to sell.

Police were called to the scene, and during interrogation, both men confessed in their caution statements.

After reviewing the evidence, the court sentenced each to three years in hard labour, stressing the need to deter similar workplace thefts.
