A wanted mobile snatcher, Ayush Yadav (24), was injured and arrested following a brief encounter with police in Pratapgarh early Sunday morning.
The Dehlupur police recovered looted mobile phones, a country-made pistol of 0.315 bore, a used cartridge, and a motorcycle from the scene. Yadav was shot in the leg during the exchange of fire and was taken to the district hospital for treatment.
According to police, the incident unfolded when a Dehlupur police team was conducting routine checks near Nauwapur village road. They spotted two men on a motorcycle behaving suspiciously and signaled them to stop. The suspects attempted to flee, prompting a chase.
When cornered, one of the men opened fire at the police. The officers fired back, injuring Ayush Yadav in the left leg. His accomplice, identified as Uphar Mani alias Moh of Tiwaripur village, was caught shortly after during a brief chase.
Police revealed that the duo had snatched two mobile phones from a woman near Chitpalgarh Nahar Pulia Road on October 9. A case had already been registered at the Dehlupur police station.
Subsequent investigation linked both Yadav and Mani to the crime. Their arrest marks a significant development in the ongoing crackdown on street crimes in the area.
