LOS ANGELES, Calif. — A new criminal scheme has shaken the San Fernando Valley as two Colombian nationals, Nikol Quiroga, 30, and Sandra Aguillon, 49, were arrested for grand theft after allegedly using a fake cleaning service to gain access to homes and commit burglaries.
According to the Los Angeles Police Department (LAPD), the women created fraudulent profiles on a mobile cleaning service app to pose as house cleaners and enter unsuspecting victims’ residences.
Upon their arrest on September 30, investigators found $50,000 in cash, luxury goods, burglary tools, Wi-Fi jammers, GPS trackers, stolen license plates, and camouflaged trail cameras in their apartment and vehicle. These items suggest a well-organized and sophisticated operation possibly linked to a larger transnational crime network.
NBC Los Angeles reports that the trail cameras may have been used to surveil potential targets or monitor police activity, indicating efforts to avoid detection.
Both Quiroga and Aguillon have been booked at Van Nuys Jail and face grand theft charges as authorities continue investigating the full scope of their alleged activities.
The Major Theft Task Force, a coalition of the LAPD, FBI, and California Highway Patrol, is leading the investigation and encouraging any additional victims or witnesses to come forward. Authorities have also warned there may be more suspects involved.
Anyone with information is urged to contact the LAPD Commercial Crimes Division or submit anonymous tips via the L.A. Regional Crime Stoppers hotline or website.
