In a decisive police action in Banderdewa, Arunachal Pradesh, two individuals were arrested late Wednesday night for heroin trafficking. The Banderdewa Police Station team, acting on a credible tip-off, intercepted the suspects around 10:40 pm on October 9 near the local market. The operation was overseen by Nyelam Nega, SP Naharlagun, and led by Inspector Kipa Hamak, with SI Koj Tada, Head Constable Tade Bomdom, and Constables Rinchin Tsering and Udipta Gogoi.
Meanwhile, the Rajasthan Anti-Terrorist Squad (ATS) made headlines on Thursday by apprehending 28 people posing as ex-servicemen. These individuals fraudulently obtained jobs as security guards at the Food Corporation of India (FCI) by submitting fake Army retirement documents. IG (ATS) Vikas Kumar explained that FCI requires 90% of its security personnel to be retired Army soldiers.
Following a tip-off, ATS launched an investigation that uncovered multiple guards using forged certificates to secure employment via a private security agency. In a coordinated operation, the ATS conducted a mock drill at 31 FCI depots across Kota, Bhilwara, Udaipur, and Banswara, during which all security guards were asked to present their Army retirement documents for verification.
After careful scrutiny, 28 guards were found to have submitted counterfeit documents, including fake ID cards. They were immediately arrested, and their forged papers seized. Investigators revealed that each accused paid between Rs 30,000 and Rs 50,000 to acquire fake Army documents.
These individuals earned monthly salaries exceeding Rs 21,000 at FCI and paid monthly commissions ranging from Rs 3,000 to Rs 5,000 to brokers who facilitated their employment. Some had been working for 3 to 4 years, highlighting the extensive nature of the scam. The ATS suspects a wider network and continues to investigate.
So far, three cases have been registered, with more arrests anticipated as the probe progresses. This crackdown forms part of a broader effort against document fraud and corruption in security recruitment.
Among those arrested were Bahadur Singh Bhati, Narendra Singh Natwar, Ramprasad Meena, Yashpal Singh, Kalu Singh, Bholuraam, Rajesh Singh, Gopal Singh, and many others, according to IG Vikas Kumar.
