Durham police warn of fake roofing company

AJAX, Ontario — Durham Regional Police are investigating whether there are more victims after two men were arrested in connection with an alleged roofing scam in Ajax.

Officers were called to a home near Clements Road West and Monarch Avenue on Wednesday after a homeowner reported suspicious behavior involving a company called Toronto’s Choice Home Improvement.

Police say the victim found the company online and was quoted $18,000 for roof repairs. After payment, the suspects allegedly claimed the roof needed an additional $50,000 in repairs and demanded the balance, insisting the work was complete.

The homeowner grew suspicious and contacted a claims adjuster, who determined the cost far exceeded the value of the work performed.

Responding officers arrested two suspects at the scene. An investigation later revealed that Toronto’s Choice Home Improvement was not a legitimate business.

Police have identified the accused as:

Shane O’Driscoll, 24, of Ireland, charged with Fraud Over $5,000

James O’Driscoll, 28, of Great Britain, charged with Fraud Over $5,000

Both men were held for a bail hearing.

Investigators believe there may be additional victims and are urging anyone who dealt with the company to contact Durham Regional Police.
