In a shocking case from West Delhi, four men — including a jeweller — have been arrested for stealing gold and cash worth Rs30 lakh from a house in Punjabi Bagh, Delhi Police confirmed on Tuesday, October 7.

The heist was allegedly carried out to fund a gambling trip to Goa, said Deputy Commissioner of Police (West) Darade Sharad Bhaskar.

The main accused, Jai Prakash (32), is a known criminal from Jahangirpuri with a history of 15 cases related to robbery and house theft. On September 26, police received a PCR call reporting the theft. The complainant stated that his wife discovered missing gold and diamond jewellery from their almirah.

Acting swiftly, police registered a case and launched an extensive investigation. A dedicated team scanned over 1,260 CCTV cameras, tracking the suspects from a CNG pump in Punjabi Bagh to Jahangirpuri. This led to the identification and arrest of Jai Prakash.

During interrogation, he named his accomplices: Bigan Sah (26) and Jairam Sah (45). Raids were conducted, and both were arrested. Investigators later found that a jeweller named Ganesh (31), operating a shop in Karol Bagh, had purchased a portion of the stolen gold. He too was taken into custody.

Police recovered:

156 grams of gold jewellery worth around Rs20 lakh

Rs9.96 lakh in cash

Other gold-plated and artificial jewellery

According to police, the accused planned to fly to Goa the next day and spend the stolen money in a casino, driven by their gambling addiction and love for luxury.

Criminal records show Jai Prakash has 15 prior theft and robbery cases, Jairam Sah has 7, while Bigan and jeweller Ganesh were first-time offenders.
