Aberdeen, NC — A Rockingham man is facing felony charges after police reported he stole over $1,500 through a fraudulent return at a local business.

James McDougald, 48, was arrested on November 6, 2024, a day after the alleged crime occurred. According to Aberdeen Police Chief Brian Chavis, officers responded to a report of larceny at a business near U.S. 1 and Magnolia Dr. on November 5. While the name of the business was not disclosed, investigators quickly linked McDougald to the theft.

McDougald was charged with felony larceny by an employee and felony possession of stolen goods. Authorities obtained warrants for his arrest, and he was taken into custody in Richmond County the following day. His unsecured bond was set at $2,000.

McDougald is scheduled to face charges in court, and the investigation is ongoing.
