Police arrested a maid and her aide on Thursday for stealing 36 sovereigns of gold ornaments from a residence on Cowley Brown Road. The accused, S Kavitha (38) of Veerakeralam and her aide M Rajendran (53) from the Flower Market area, were taken into custody following an investigation.
Kavitha was employed as a maid at the home of S Sivasubramaniam (90). Between February 12 and June 5, Sivasubramaniam noticed his gold ornaments stored in a bureau had gradually gone missing. Suspecting Kavitha, he filed a police complaint with RS Puram Investigation Wing under Inspector C Maheswari.
The police inquiry confirmed Sivasubramaniam’s suspicions, leading to the arrests. Kavitha had entrusted the stolen jewellery to Rajendran for safekeeping. Authorities successfully recovered all the stolen gold ornaments from the duo.
Both Kavitha and Rajendran have been remanded in judicial custody as the investigation proceeds.
