Berhampur, Odisha: In a significant breakthrough in the armed robbery and shooting case involving diamond trader Balaram Acharya, the Badabazar Police on Sunday arrested four more suspects, bringing the total number of accused in custody to eight.
The newly arrested have been identified as:
Mustakim Khan
Jalaluddin Khan
Sheikh Afran — all residents of Khordha
Akhil Ranjan Mohanty — resident of Berhampur
The arrests are linked to the recent armed assault and robbery that took place in Sastri Nagar, where the gang allegedly opened fire at traders Balakrishna Achari and Sunil Sahu, fleeing with diamonds worth approximately Rs3.9 lakh.
During the operation, police seized:
1 pistol
2 magazines
4 rounds of live ammunition
Earlier, three suspects and one accomplice had already been arrested during the initial stages of the investigation.
Authorities are continuing their efforts to trace and recover the stolen diamonds, while investigations remain ongoing to determine the full extent of the network involved in the armed heist.
