LOGAN, Utah — A Hyrum-based garage door installer is facing felony charges after allegedly scamming multiple customers out of more than $11,000. Kyle Bret Hansen, 41, owner of Apex Garage Doors, was arrested and booked into the Cache County Jail following an investigation by the Cache County Sheriff’s Office.
According to court documents, the first complaint came in June when a customer reported paying Hansen $4,065 for a new garage door that was never installed. Hansen allegedly provided a range of excuses over several months — including issues with the distribution center, problems on other jobs, phone troubles, and even a supposed traffic accident involving his son.
Later, the same customer learned a neighbor had experienced a nearly identical situation with Hansen. That individual reportedly paid $7,308 for a garage door, which was also never delivered or installed. After more than 15 unanswered follow-ups, Hansen allegedly stopped responding entirely.
Investigators found that Apex Garage Doors’ business license had been dissolved, suggesting the company was operating without valid registration. When deputies contacted Hansen, he claimed that a third-party accounting firm was supposed to issue refunds to both customers — but no money was ever returned.
Charges Filed
Prosecutors filed two criminal cases against Hansen in Logan’s 1st District Court. He is now facing:
Three felony counts of theft by deception
One felony count of communications fraud
If convicted on all counts, Hansen could face more than 15 years in prison.
Hansen made his initial court appearance this week and is currently out of jail as the case moves forward.
