Jessica Ellis, 29, of Coates Way, was sentenced to 12 weeks in prison at Hatfield Magistrates’ Court on September 23 after pleading guilty to multiple offences.
Ellis admitted to two counts of theft from a shop, involving stealing charity boxes on two occasions. The first incident took place on August 23 at a Tesco Express on St Albans Road, followed by a similar theft at a Timpson store in Buckinghamshire eight days later.
In addition, she was charged with two counts of vehicle interference, involving attempts to tamper with a white Ford S-Max and a blue Ford Fiesta in Watford’s North Approach. However, no additional penalty was imposed for these charges due to her guilty plea.
Court documents also revealed that Ellis was breaching a court order at the time of her offences.
This is not Ellis’s first run-in with the law. Earlier this year, in April 2024, she was given a 36-week suspended prison sentence for “persistently” breaking into a McDonald’s in Watford. The court opted for suspension based on a “realistic prospect of rehabilitation.”
Despite prior leniency, this week’s ruling resulted in immediate incarceration.
