JACKSON, Miss. — Two individuals have been arrested and one remains at large following the theft of $2,800 worth of copper wire in Natchez, Mississippi. Authorities say the stolen wire was transported to Jackson to be burned and sold.
The case dates back to May, when deputies with the Adams County Sheriff’s Office responded to a report of copper theft at 769 U.S. 61 North. Approximately 400 feet of 400-pair copper wire and several fiber lines had been taken.
Surveillance footage from a nearby business helped investigators identify three suspects. Their investigation revealed that the trio sold the stripped wire at various recycling centers.
On September 15, Adams County and Hinds County investigators located multiple suspects at a Jackson residence. Evidence of copper theft was found at the scene, including burnt wire casings and freshly stripped wire.
George Hayley, of Jackson, confessed to taking part in the theft, stating that he and David Glaze and Regina Blair Glaze stole the wire in Natchez and returned to Jackson to process and sell it.
Hayley is currently held by the Hinds County Sheriff’s Office on multiple charges, including possession of stolen property and possession of a firearm by a convicted felon. He will be transferred to Adams County to face grand larceny charges.
Regina Glaze is being held in the Adams County Jail on a $25,000 bond in connection to the case.
David Glaze, however, fled the scene on foot when law enforcement arrived — abandoning his disabled wife in the process. He is wanted by the Adams County Sheriff’s Office and has been entered into NCIC for grand larceny.
Authorities are asking anyone with information on David Glaze’s whereabouts to contact the Adams County Sheriff’s Office.
