Auburn, NY — A Cayuga County man was caught on camera stealing trail cameras and now faces charges, officials say.

Phillip Daniels, 67, of Auburn, was arrested Friday morning following a report of missing trail cameras from trees near the Sennett Meadows Apartments on East Genesee Street Road. Deputies were dispatched around 9:15 a.m. after a hunter noticed several cameras had been taken.

The trail cameras, designed to send live video and photos to the owner, recorded Daniels in the act of stealing them. Authorities quickly identified Daniels and recovered the stolen equipment from him.

He was charged with petit larceny and released with an appearance ticket. Daniels is scheduled to appear in Sennett Town Court.

As with all cases, Daniels is presumed innocent until proven guilty.
