The Vijay Nagar Police have arrested a notorious interstate burglar, recovering stolen property worth Rs1 crore, including jewellery, cash, and a stolen vehicle.
The accused, Vijendra, also known as Bantu or Suresh, aged 40 and a native of Jhajjar district, Haryana, was tracked down to Amravati, Maharashtra, following a major theft reported on the night of June 9–10, 2025. During that break-in, jewellery and Rs31.5 lakh in cash were stolen from the residence of Piyush Grover.
Under the direction of Police Commissioner Santosh Kumar Singh and senior officers, a special team led by Vijay Nagar Station In-charge Chandrakant Patel was formed. The team meticulously analyzed over 600 CCTV footages, ultimately identifying that the burglar operated alone.
Utilizing cyber intelligence tools and local informant networks, the police arrested Vijendra. During interrogation, he confessed to being behind 31 thefts across multiple states, including Madhya Pradesh, Haryana, Rajasthan, and Maharashtra, according to Additional DCP Amrendra Singh.
Recovered items include:
550 grams of gold jewellery
Rs5 lakh in cash
A stolen Hyundai Xcent purchased with proceeds of the crimes
Described as a seasoned and calculating criminal, Vijendra has a past involving theft, housebreaking, and drug trafficking, with previous jail terms in Gwalior, Bhopal, Haryana, and Rajasthan.
Singh noted that the accused led a lavish lifestyle, funded by his crimes. He used the money for alcohol, gambling, and luxury cars. To avoid capture, Vijendra employed extreme caution:
Avoided mobile phones
Used multiple SIM cards
Never stayed in hotels
Frequently changed residences
Relied on public transport to travel
Targeted isolated homes after remote surveillance
Police said his lone-wolf approach was meant to minimize risk and maintain full control over operations.
