LOUISVILLE, Ky. — Louisville Metro Police have arrested Brian Kenneth Hampton, 44, after he was caught attempting to steal infrastructure wire, with damages totaling over $1 million across multiple incidents.

Hampton was taken into custody on September 18, 2025, after police responded to a call about a suspicious vehicle tampering with wires along Eastwood Fisherville Road. A witness provided officers with a license plate number, leading them to Hampton, who was driving a white Ford F-150.

After being detained and read his Miranda rights, Hampton was taken to LMPD’s 7th Division headquarters, where he confessed to trying to remove the wire and admitted to five prior thefts involving similar infrastructure wire.

According to the arrest report, the value of the stolen wire from two of the thefts exceeded $1,000,000. The stolen material was classified as critical infrastructure, making the offense a serious felony.

Charges Against Hampton:

2 counts of Theft by Unlawful Taking ($1M–$10M range)

4 counts of Criminal Mischief – Tampering with Key Infrastructure

2 counts of Trespass of Key Infrastructure Assets

1 count of General Criminal Mischief

1 count of Trespass of Key Infrastructure Assets (additional)

Hampton entered not guilty pleas during his September 19 arraignment. The court appointed him a public defender and granted a prosecutor’s request to increase his bond to $50,000 cash. If posted, he will be placed on home incarceration.

He is scheduled for a preliminary hearing on September 29, 2025.
