Dakshina Kannada police have arrested four individuals, including an assistant sub-inspector (ASI) from Kerala, for their involvement in a robbery where miscreants impersonated Enforcement Directorate (ED) officials and stole nearly Rs 30 lakh from a businessman’s family within the jurisdiction of Vittal police station.
According to Dakshina Kannada Superintendent of Police Yathish N, the investigation identified Sirajuddin, 37, from Kolnadu, Bantwal, who allegedly provided insider information about the victim’s residence on February 15. His interrogation led to the capture of two more suspects: Mohammad Iqbal, 38, from Bantwal, and Mohammad Ansar, 27, from Padil.
The major breakthrough was the arrest of the mastermind, Shafeer Babu, 48, an ASI posted at Kodungallur police station in Thrissur, Kerala. Early investigations suggest that Shafeer Babu served as the crucial link between the local and Kerala gangs, playing a significant role in orchestrating and carrying out the crime.
To apprehend the accused, four special teams comprising expert investigators from multiple police stations were formed under the leadership of SP Yathish N. Efforts are ongoing to recover the stolen cash.
