Bhopal – Shahpura police have cracked a Rs30 lakh burglary case, arresting three men including Ashutosh Srivastava, a travel agency operator from Indore, who orchestrated the crime using insider information.
According to Shahpura SHO Lokendra Singh Thakur, the burglary occurred between March 18 and 19, when Gopal Prasad Agrawal and his family left their home in Jai Bhavani Society for a trip to Omkareshwar. Upon their return, they discovered the house had been ransacked, with Rs8 lakh in cash and 300 grams of gold and silver jewellery missing.
Investigations led police to Ashutosh Srivastava (33) and Jitendra alias Jeetu Meena (30), both of whom were arrested from Danapani Road. Srivastava had obtained crucial information about the family’s absence and valuables through his friendship with the victim’s son, Piyush.
“Ashutosh frequently visited the Agrawal family and was aware of their financial condition and where valuables were kept,” said SHO Thakur. He used this information to plan the heist with Jitendra.
During questioning, the accused admitted to selling the stolen jewellery to Dharmendra alias Manish Prajapati (33) in Indore. A raid at an Indrapuri flat in Piplani led to the recovery of cash, jewellery, and a scooter used in the crime. Police later seized three gold bars (194 grams) and a silver bar (650 grams) from Prajapati in Indore, who confessed to melting down the stolen items.
The total recovered stolen property is estimated at Rs30 lakh, including Rs6.83 lakh in cash, gold earrings, a gold chain, a ring, and the melted bars.
Further investigation is ongoing to determine the accused’s involvement in other crimes.
