Chandannagar police arrested two men on Wednesday for brutally assaulting a 35-year-old unemployed man to death after the victim allegedly teased a woman on Tuesday evening.
The deceased has been identified as Sainath alias Kalibai Janrao from Ambedkar slums in Chandannagar.
Senior Inspector Seema Dhakane said that Aditya Walhekar (21) and Karan Sharma (22), both residents of Ambedkar slums, were arrested after investigations revealed they had beaten Janrao with a hockey stick. The assault was in retaliation for Janrao’s eve-teasing of Walhekar’s cousin around 8:30 pm on Tuesday.
An FIR was registered for murder, and the police are continuing their investigation.
