In a significant breakthrough, Vidyanagar police arrested three Rajasthan-based burglars involved in a string of interstate housebreaks. The trio — Shyam Singh (28), Kavar Pal (24), and Pratap Singh (33) — were systematically targeting locked homes across multiple states, including Karnataka and Madhya Pradesh.
The arrests came after a burglary reported on January 9, 2025, at the home of Ranganath in Vinayaka Badavane, VMG Layout, Vidyanagar. Ranganath, who had been away in Bengaluru, returned to find his home ransacked and valuables stolen from a Godrej bureau.
Following his complaint, police launched a detailed probe that led to the arrest of the gang. From the accused, police recovered stolen property worth Rs15,37,800, including:
162.150 grams of gold worth Rs12,97,200
1,350 grams of silver worth Rs1,08,000
Cash amounting to Rs95,600
Six mobile phones valued at Rs34,000
Two wristwatches worth Rs3,000
Preliminary investigations revealed the gang’s involvement in at least six burglaries across Harihar, Haliyal, Dharwad, Tumakuru, Tiptur, and Bhopal (Madhya Pradesh).
Their modus operandi included targeting unoccupied homes, breaking locks, looting valuables, and swiftly moving across state borders to avoid detection.
All three accused have been produced before a local court and remanded to judicial custody.
Davanagere SP Uma Prashanth lauded the Vidyanagar police team for cracking the case, highlighting their coordination with Gujarat police as key to the arrests. She noted that the operation has not only resolved the Vinayaka Layout case but is expected to shed light on several unsolved thefts across the region.
The arrests have brought relief to Vidyanagar residents, who had been on edge due to a series of recent burglaries.
