Commissioner Giles “Buddy” Byrd Charged in NC Oil Theft

Columbus County official accused of stealing hydraulic oil

COLUMBUS COUNTY, N.C. — A Columbus County commissioner has been arrested and charged with misdemeanor larceny following an alleged theft in Bladen County.

According to official arrest warrants, Giles “Buddy” Byrd is accused of taking a 5-gallon bucket of hydraulic oil from another person’s property on August 31, 2025.

Arrest and Bond

Byrd was arrested on September 2 and later released on a $500 unsecured bond the same day. He is scheduled to appear in court on September 30.
