by Amelia Crawford

HOLMES COUNTY, Fla. – An employee at a popular Florida recreation destination has been arrested for burglary and theft, according to the Holmes County Sheriff’s Office.

Deputies responded to Vortex Springs on September 1 following a report of burglary and theft at the Copper Lodge. Two flat-screen televisions were reported missing from the property.

Surveillance footage identified Jeffery Thames, an employee of Vortex Springs, as the suspect. Authorities say Thames unexpectedly arrived at the scene during the investigation and attempted to flee upon seeing deputies.

Officers quickly caught up with Thames, who admitted to taking the televisions. Deputies later recovered the stolen TVs from Thames’ residence on Johnson Lakes Road and returned them to the owner.

Thames was arrested and charged with burglary, theft, and criminal mischief. The investigation remains ongoing.
