Walter Wilkins Arrested Following Six-Hour Standoff in Weathersfield

WEATHERSFIELD, Vt. (WCAX) — A 56-year-old Weathersfield man, Walter Wilkins, has been arrested following a home invasion that led to a six-hour standoff with law enforcement.

The incident began around 1:45 a.m. last Tuesday when authorities responded to a report of a home invasion on Route 5 in Weathersfield. According to the Windsor County Sheriff, the victim, who escaped to a neighbor’s house for help, was found bleeding and said they had been assaulted during the invasion.

Police identified Wilkins as the suspect and tracked him to a residence on Wheeler Camp Road two days later, on Thursday. Upon arrival, officers say Wilkins barricaded himself inside, prompting a tense multi-hour standoff.

Authorities were eventually able to take Wilkins into custody. He now faces multiple felony charges, including kidnapping, aggravated assault, and burglary.

Wilkins is currently being held without bail and is scheduled to appear in court on Tuesday.
