In a swift breakthrough, Ratlam police arrested three members of a family in connection with the recent burglary at the main post office, recovering nearly the entire stolen sum of Rs7 lakh within 72 hours of the crime.
The accused have been identified as Amrit Singh Solanki (28), his wife Anita Solanki (22), and his sister Papita Solanki (22) — all residents of Binoli village in the Ringnod area of Ratlam.
According to the police, Amrit, under mounting financial pressure due to debt, devised and executed the heist. He reportedly ordered a battery-operated electric cutter online, conducted reconnaissance of the area in advance, and chose a rainy night for the break-in to minimize visibility. Wearing a raincoat and covering his face, he scaled the post office wall, cut the locks using the electric cutter, and stole the cash, stashing it in a bag.
In an effort to evade detection, Amrit walked to the railway station, then took an auto-rickshaw, before retrieving his motorcycle parked at a distance and fleeing the scene.
He later confessed to handing over the stolen cash to his wife and sister for safekeeping. Both women were subsequently arrested, and the cash was recovered from their possession. Police also seized the tools used in the crime, including the electric cutter.
Authorities praised the rapid investigative work and technical surveillance that led to the timely arrests.
