SINGAPORE – Italian swimmers Blessed Pilato and Chiara Tarantino were arrested during a vacation in Singapore following the World Swimming Championships on charges of theft. The incident was swiftly resolved after the intervention of the Italian Embassy, and both athletes were released shortly thereafter.

Pilato, who took to social media to address the incident, explained, “During my return from Asia, after the World Championships and a brief stay with fellow members of the Italian national swimming team, I found myself indirectly involved in an unpleasant situation handled by Singapore airport authorities.”

She went on to describe how her time in Singapore, meant to be a period of rest and relaxation, turned into a difficult experience. “These were days that should have been about mental relaxation, but instead, I faced moments far from home that were beyond my control. Despite this, the situation was resolved quickly, thanks to my cooperation with local authorities and the support of the Italian Embassy.”

Pilato emphasized that she had no intention of committing any wrongful acts. “I immediately cooperated with the authorities, and I never meant to do anything inappropriate. Those who know me understand how much I value the principles of sport, fairness, and honesty,” she stated.

Reflecting on the experience, Pilato acknowledged the lessons she learned about personal responsibility, prudence, and the importance of having supportive people around her. “This situation has taught me valuable lessons that will guide me going forward. Now, I can refocus on my sporting journey with more determination and peace of mind.”

Pilato also expressed gratitude for the quiet support she received from her family, friends, and supporters. “I am deeply grateful to those who stood by me without judgment and continue to believe in me,” she concluded.
