Hopkinsville Man, Tennessee Woman Charged in Tool Theft Case

Lauren Shears, Jason James face multiple theft and drug charges

HOPKINSVILLE, Ky. — A Hopkinsville man and a Winchester, Tennessee woman were charged Wednesday morning in connection with two theft investigations.

Police responded to a hotel on Richard Mill Drive regarding an unpaid cab fare and discovered 33-year-old Lauren Shears with two stolen toolboxes and other tools taken from Rural King the previous day. She admitted to being the getaway driver in the theft.

Officers found 49-year-old Jason James after he fled and hid in a drainage tunnel. James was found carrying 29 grams of methamphetamine and a glass pipe.

The pair reportedly called a cab after their vehicle broke down near the 17-mile marker of I-169 following the Rural King theft.

Shears was charged with receiving stolen property and third-degree burglary. James faced charges including theft, trafficking methamphetamine, third-degree burglary, theft of services, and outstanding warrants related to theft and being a fugitive from another state.
