Two men have been apprehended for their involvement in a burglary at the home of retired justice Ramesh Garg’s son, located in Pragati Park colony, falling under the Khudel police jurisdiction, police announced on Friday.

Valuables, including cash and jewellery worth several lakhs, as well as the SUV used in the crime, were seized from the accused during interrogation. Authorities are investigating their links to other accomplices.

According to SP (Indore Rural) Yangchen Dolkar Bhutia, the incident took place in the early hours of August 10 when masked intruders broke into the bungalow and escaped with significant valuables. CCTV footage captured images of suspects at the scene.

Following the crime, IG Anurag convened a high-level meeting, instructing officers to form a Special Investigation Team (SIT) of 41 personnel from various police stations, including Khudel, Simrol, and Tanda, led by DSP (Indore Rural) Umakant Choudhary, to expedite the investigation.

The SIT analyzed CCTV footage from multiple locations and toll plazas, scrutinized migrant labor records, and conducted searches in districts such as Dhar, Barwani, Shajapur, Jhabua, Alirajpur, and Dewas. The coordinated effort led to the identification and arrest of Sameer alias Sameera Makwana and Sarkal Mandloi, residents of villages under Tanda in Dhar district. Four accomplices remain at large.

Recovered items include jewellery valued at around Rs 5 lakh—comprising two gold chains and a gold ring—along with Rs 40,000 in cash and the SUV involved in the crime. The accused were presented before the court and remanded in police custody until August 26.

Officials credited the swift progress to SP Bhutia’s leadership and the SIT’s coordinated strategy. The team is continuing efforts to track down the remaining suspects and recover the remaining stolen property.

Investigation revealed that the accused had parked their SUV away from the bungalow and accessed the property via nearby farmland to mislead the police. CCTV footage also captured the vehicle at a toll plaza on the Indore-Ahmedabad Highway, which helped police trace the suspects after they went missing for several days.
