KINSTON, NC – New details have emerged regarding a June 30 shooting in Kinston that left Jamell Howard, 37, with a gunshot wound to the leg.
Officers from the Kinston Police Department responded to a report of a gunshot victim in the 1300 block of McAdoo Street. Upon arrival, they found Howard suffering from a gunshot wound and transported him to ECU Health for medical treatment.
Following an investigation, detectives determined that Howard was shot during an attempted robbery. According to newly released warrants, Howard tried to steal marijuana valued at $12,820 and threatened to kill the victim during the incident.
As a result, police charged Howard with:
Attempted Common Law Robbery
Conspiracy to Commit Armed Robbery
Communicating Threats
He was arrested on July 3 and booked into the Lenoir County Jail. His bond was set at $40,000 secured.
The case remains under investigation.
