Police have arrested a 20-year-old woman, Mahek alias Adiba Azim Shaikh, for stealing cash and gold ornaments worth Rs 1,45,700 in Latur city.
The arrest followed a complaint from a woman in Dharashiv district reporting that her purse containing Rs 5,700 was stolen in the Gandhi Chowk area.
During the investigation, Mahek was apprehended. She admitted to stealing the purse during police questioning.
Further inquiry revealed that two more theft cases were registered against her. She confessed to stealing a 10-gram gold chain and a 5-gram gold ring in separate incidents.
With her arrest, the police successfully cracked three theft cases and recovered stolen property worth Rs 1.45 lakh.
