Gurram Vijayalakshmi (48), owner of Sri Lakshmi Constructions, was apprehended at Shamshabad Airport while attempting to flee India amid allegations of a Rs300 crore fraud involving unauthorized villa sales.

A resident of Nizampet, Vijayalakshmi operated multiple construction firms, including Sri Lakshmi Constructions, Sri Lakshmi Mags Constructions, and Bhavana GLC Cribs. In 2018, she launched a housing project in Mallampet consisting of 325 villas. However, only 65 villas had proper legal approvals, while the remaining 260 were sold using falsified approvals from the local panchayat.

Following complaints about illegal constructions, investigations led to the seizure of 201 villas in 2021. Vijayalakshmi allegedly leveraged her influence to re-register some properties despite the legal restrictions. Furthermore, 26 villas were located within the Full Tank Level (FTL) and buffer zone, prompting the Hyderabad Metropolitan Development Authority (HMDA) to demolish 15 villas in September.

Authorities have registered seven separate cases against Vijayalakshmi at the Dundigal Police Station.

On Wednesday night, Vijayalakshmi arrived at Shamshabad Airport to board a flight out of the country. During immigration checks, officials discovered lookout notices against her and immediately detained her. Dundigal police were alerted, took her into custody, and subsequently remanded her to judicial custody.

The case continues to develop as investigations into the fraudulent housing project proceed.
