SPRINGFIELD, Ill. (WICS) — A woman was arrested Monday afternoon after allegedly assaulting another woman and stealing her purse near Isles Park in Springfield.
Officers from the Springfield Police Department responded to a disturbance at 600 E. Ash Street on August 18. Upon arrival, they identified Darria U. Goudy as the suspect, matching the description provided by the victim’s mother.
Victim Assaulted, Purse Stolen
According to police and victim statements, the incident occurred near a public parking lot. Goudy allegedly approached the woman, grabbed her hair, punched her multiple times, and stole her Michael Kors purse, valued at $350, before fleeing into Isles Park.
The victim suffered visible injuries, including a swollen cheek, bruises on her arms, and a bruise above her left breast. The purse was later recovered by officers from a black SUV Goudy had exited nearby. The purse strap was torn beyond repair, the victim reported.
Suspect Confesses to Assault
Goudy was located shortly after and reportedly admitted to being the aggressor before being read her Miranda Rights at 4:10 p.m. She claimed the victim had hit her with the purse first, prompting her response.
Officers noted Goudy had blisters on her feet from running barefoot and was treated at the scene.
Further investigation revealed Goudy also has an active warrant in Sangamon County for failure to appear on a charge of driving with a suspended license.
Charges are pending, and the case is under review by the Sangamon County State’s Attorney’s Office.
